Heads Up

Many of the units in our apartment complex are still in the process of being renovated and prepared for residence. So it is pretty common to hear workers and tools - in our building, and in the buildings around us. Not too long ago, we noticed from our window a large pile of rocks in front of the building across the way. Apparently, some of the renovation work meant hammering out some of the cement walls.

These were big, heavy pieces of cement. That sure is a lot to carry... especially down 5 flights of stairs. Then we realized... they weren't using the stairs.


Instead, at the bottom, near the pile, was a man standing guard. No safety helmet, nothing. His job is to yell to the guy upstairs just in case somebody happens to be walking out the door, right into the drop zone. And probably, his job is also to yell at those people who are about to wander into the drop zone.



And then up above, every few seconds or so, is the man on the 5th floor... throwing rocks out the window.



I'll admit... that's probably how I would have done this job too. Doing five flights of stairs over and over again... is a lot of work, especially if you're carrying heavy rocks. Still, I think I would have implemented some safety measures - maybe a safety helmet, some yellow tape to cordon off the area - oh, and I probably would have moved that guy's bike for him, just to be nice.
