I'm doing some preliminary math to figure out how many Styrofoam cups I'm going to go through in my next 2 weeks here at this training. The hotel, with its 24/7 coffee and tea, only has Styrofoam cups. The training center also only has Styrofoam cups. So I'm seriously looking at 3-4 cups used per day, over approximately 11 days. That's around 35 Styrofoam cups. By some estimates, 25 million Styrofoam cups go into our landfills each year, making up 25% of our landfill space.
So I'm thinking about buying a mug at Starbucks, on sale these days for about $5. I should have brought one with me, but luggage space was limited.

This makes my (green) heart hurt.
Did you know thermal tumblers function the same as a mug? I take my metal tumbler with me wherever I go, even if I don't expect to drink coffee. I can fill it up with water at any airport. And if I were in Reading, PA with you right now, my styrofoam cup output would be 0 instead of 35.
Buy another tumbler, not a mug. A mug can't function as a tumbler. But a tumbler can function as a mug.

You'll be happy to know that we decided to buy a tumbler instead of a mug - the one that is made of 29% post-consumer recycled content.
I'm using it now.
And... we were going to give it to you when we get back home.
