One phenomenon here is that many girls, when walking, like to link arms with each other. The first time I met my tutor, she linked my arm with hers and walked me to the cafeteria. I felt really uncomfortable since I never walk like that with my girl friends. I didn't know what to do with my hands so I let my arm be stiff at 90 degrees and then let her arm do her thing. She must of thought that felt weird.
Last week, I was walking with my tutor, and she kept linking arms with me. Yet, it didn't feel uncomfortable at all. I actually put out my arm so she could link with me. My arm is now at a loose and comfortable side angle and once in a while I initiated the arm link. I think this is a sign that I am starting to feel more comfortable in this culture.

seeing girls walk arm-in-arm is a pretty coming thing in China, but when I see men walking that way makes me a little uncomfortable no matter what. So, Alvin, it is ok to refuse "that" arm if offered. Agree?!
here men walk hand in hand, as in interdigitated hand in hand. I don't walk like that with my WIFE!
if not hand in hand definitely arms round the shoulders.
been here 6 months and still not used to it
I'm a fan of the girl arm in arm. I feel like that seems impossible knowing myself. But there it is. I like the arm in arm.
And dudes here also click noses with their faces so close they could touch tongues if they tried. The interdigitating is still weirder, but I'm always astounded with the nose clicks.
