Well, just in case I get overseas and the French Press doesn't work out initially, or I can't find a grinder in time, or I ever don't have access to beans... I have just now acquired an emergency preparedness kit of a different sort:

For right now, Starbucks VIA (single cup instant coffee packs) is only available in select stores in Seattle and Chicago, and also in Target and Costco in those cities. But, thanks to ebay, I was able to get a pretty good deal on multiple packs (I'm ashamed to say how many).
CLau and FChan - I'll save you some.

OK, that's scary! Did I ever tell you the time we had this type of "emergency?" Power went out on a Saturday morning before coffee was ground. We have a little Italian coffee pot that we can use on our gas stove, but it needs ground coffee, not whole beans. There was panic because unless caffine gets into the blood by a certain time, headache sets in for the day. So there was a coffee run...and remember, we live in the sticks. We now keep ground coffee in the freezer for just those kind of emergencies. Perhaps I should stash VIA, too...tho it looks somewhat unappealing ;). You could cut down on coffee addiction...but you're probably giving me one of those looks that I got here w/that suggestion.
