| My "Nike+ Icon" - this is kind of how I look when I run, except I don't have this t-shirt. |
I have noticed that in LA, I get a lot of comments while I run, while Alvin has gotten none. Usually these comments happen while Alvin is running way in front of me. The first comment was by an old man. I was bent over tying my shoe, and an old guy walked by and said, "hot buns!" Eeeww, I felt so harassed.
The second comment was by a woman in a car. I was running on the side of a side street, next to the sidewalk when a woman rolled down her window and yelled, "that is what sidewalks are for!" I didn't hear her, so I stuck my head closer to her window, and she yelled,"that is what sidewalks are for!" and drove off huffily. Hmm, I should tell her that is not a complete sentence. Well, I am pretty sure she was not happy with me running on the side of the road and not the sidewalk. Question for you: are runners allowed to run on the side of the road or must they run on the sidewalk?
The last comment was when I was at the beach on the bike/run path. I had Meliya in a stroller, but I was stopped for a second with the stroller jutting in the run path. This woman ran past and yelled, "Jesus, stay in the right lanes!" I had a feeling she was talking to me and not Jesus, because I am sure Jesus knows which lane to stay in when He runs.
I have run in China outside, and have never heard a comment. Yet in one month I heard all these comments. My question is whether this is unique to runners in LA (maybe people in LA just have more angst and want to share it), and why is it that Alvin never gets comments?

You seriously get those kind of comments? Ignore them...you'll never see those people again. Good for you for starting to run again...starting is the hardest!
Oh...and yes, I run on the street all the time, running against traffic (so you can see cars coming at you). It's preferable over sidewalks because the asphault is kinder on your knees than concrete. Runners do it all the time! Obviously, that woman should excercise more :).

If you get a chance, some of my favorite, more scenic paths are at the end of Hawthorne, over looking the Pacific Ocean. It reminds me a lot of the view in Hawaii. Hope you're enjoying TX.
